The Universe is coded with frequencies, numbers and patterns – and our human lives run through seasons and cycles to ensure we’re always evolving.
I’ve talked with several 1:1 clients recently about their personal year numbers and it’s been fascinating to see how the feelings they’re having and experiences they’re going through align perfectly with the number of their current year.
On the plane to Cyprus last year, I sat alone with my journal and turned to one of the blank pages at the front. I traced back year by year to the early 2000’s and listed my personal year number next to each one. As I was born in May, this meant each personal year began on 12th May (from when I was born) and ended 11th May of the following year.
This exercise I was called to do showed me the rhythm of my life. The pattern emerged, perfectly in tune with my personal year numbers. Big life events like going to university or starting my A-levels would become buying a house or changing career on the same number of the next 9 year cycle. I could also see that each 9 year cycle had a theme. The previous 9 year cycle was about me moving into higher education and trying on different careers. The current 9 year cycle began with me starting my business and the next 9 year cycle starts when I see myself having children. None of this was planned – it all fell perfectly into alignment with a rhythm I didn’t even know was there.
My book is about Living In Tune with yourself – but we are also living in tune with the Universe as a whole. We have our own rhythms and we move with the rhythms of the cosmos. To find what significance your personal year number may have for you, read below.
How to calculate your personal year number
To calculate your personal year number for 2024, add your birth date and month to the year 2024 (or whatever the current year is)
For example, my birth date is 12 and month is May (5) so it would be:
1 + 2 + 0 + 5 + 2 + 0 + 2 + 4 = 16
Then add the individual numbers within the total together:
1 + 6 = 7

Personal year number 1
A personal year 1 means that you are embarking on a new 9 year cycle. A major shift of some kind will be happening this year to set the tone for what your life will focus on during this cycle.
As I’ve already mentioned, I took the first step for this business and set up my Instagram account on May 18th 2018, just 6 days after stepping into a 1 personal year. During the 1 year of my previous cycle, I started applying to universities – getting ready to leave home, enter higher education and start real work in the adult world.
You will usually feel ready for what is coming for you in a 1 year, like you have been preparing for this and are eager to jump in with both feet. There is an energy of excitement with a 1 year, because you can taste the unlimited opportunities available. Almost anything seems possible and you are ready to conquer the world with your plans.
The changes you’re being called to are laying the foundations for this next near-decade of your life, so the decisions you’re making will have a profound impact on your path ahead. This isn’t scary. In fact, it’s exciting! The world is your oyster and you can make the next 9 years into whatever you want them to be.
This is just the beginning, so don’t expect huge progress to happen in this year alone. You are sowing the seeds of something that will grow to be great. This is a launching pad year that will decide the direction of your course ahead.
Personal year 2
After starting in a new direction during the 1 year, the following 2 year is a chance to integrate and build on these foundations. You will have more drive and confidence after getting past the initial curiosity stage. You are fully initiated into this 9 year cycle now and it’s time to get more serious about the plans you started working towards last year.
After starting the website and Instagram for my business-to-be in a 1 year, I actually started offering paid services in a personal year 2. I made an Instagram ebook and sold paid Tarot readings; I also went to my second Hay House event (the first one was in my 1 year, of course) that would ultimately lead to my book being born.
There will be a focus on relationships and partnerships – I got married in July 2019 during my last 2 year. If you’re single, you may find a partner. Or if you’re already in a relationship, it may solidify in some way and move to the next level of commitment.
You can also expect your spiritual journey to develop here too, as the way you’re moving forward will require you to heal on deeper level and connect with the Universe more so you can fulfil the mission you’re currently on.
This is a personal year that’s all about connection and finding your feet in whatever this whole 9 year cycle means for you. It’s moving forward. It’s happening now – it’s not just an idea or exciting plan. You’re doing it!

Personal year 3
Being in a 3 year is all about communication. Sharing what you’ve learned, communicating your value and gaining a higher position of authority within your network as a result.
So many things happened in my last 3 year as an example of this energy – I got my book deal and received my first ever payment from Hay House. We were going back and forth in discussions before it got to this point. I did my first ever live masterclass and was so lit up afterwards that I realised I had a thing for teaching. I was doing 12 YouTube videos a month sharing Tarot readings for each sign publicly and started my podcast.
You are now 1/3 through the 9 year cycle, so you’re fully integrated into whatever the theme of this phase is for you. I moved house and got my own office for the first time ever during my last 3 year, which is a good representation of no longer being someone who was playing around with some cute business pieces – I was now committing to being a businesswoman with my own space to operate from.
This is a year that’s all about speaking, sharing your wisdom and connecting with others who feel the same way. Your network will grow and it will be filled with people who are relevant to the journey you’re on during this 9 year phase.
Personal year 4
It’s time to buckle in, because this is where things get serious! You may feel the pressure mounting as your to-do list stacks up and more demands than ever are coming your way.
This year is all about doing, doing, doing so get prepared to be in hustle mode as your masculine energy comes to the forefront to get you through. It may feel as though life is piling on you from all directions, but it’s only because what you’ve built for the previous 3 years is coming to fruition. You can manage it all, even though it may feel like a stretch at times.
During my last 4 year, I was working as a lecturer, creating a program to help spiritual entrepreneurs get their book published, had 7 clients I was working with 1:1, was publishing a weekly podcast and working with Hay House on my book, which went to print in October. Phew! It makes me exhausted just typing it all 😅 To be honest with you, I had a moment during this year where I genuinely thought I couldn’t handle it all – but I did.
This is a personal year that will stretch your capacity and take you to a new edge where you realise that you’re more than capable as a CEO and captain of your own life. The good news is the work you do here sets you up for a lighter year coming up ahead.
And it’s not all doom and gloom, I spent the best 3 months of my life so far in California during this year (while also being super busy making Spiritual Coaching Academy…)
Personal year 5
Your word for the year is FREEDOM! This will be so soothing for your soul after the hard work and drudgery of your 4 year. You will feel like your life is full of fun, adventure and exploration. Relative to all the other years in your 9 year cycle, this is very likely to be your most fun one.
It will feel like you’re enjoying the fruits of your labour and savouring the sweetness of what you have created so far through this cycle. Have fun, play and enjoy it all – it’s your prerogative! And you deserve it after all the hard work you’ve put in and risks you’ve taken.
In my last 5 year, I travelled full time for almost the whole year, living in Air BnB’s. I went to Santorini, Mykonos, Costa Rica, Tulum, Cyprus and Lisbon. I did Ayahuasca with an Amazonian tribe in the rainforest and learned Spanish for 4 months. In the previous cycle, my 5 year was very similar and it took me travelling for a month around Europe with 2 friends, staying in shared dorms in hostels in 8 different countries.
I then started my investment banking career and finally had some money for the first time ever, which I happily splashed on Louboutins, trips to Budapest and Rome, and a 2 week road trip through California with my bestie. See, I told you 5 years are fun?!
This is an amazing year of the cycle, so make the most of it and enjoy!
Personal year 6
The energy of a 6 year is a reverse swing from the 5 year and you will be tied to your responsibilities again. It won’t feel as heavy and restrictive as the 4 year, but you may feel as though you are stuck in your circumstances and unable to move for the time being.
You may find yourself saving for something or supporting someone in your life, so you have to honour those obligations above the more frivolous, fun and freedom-filled things you enjoyed last year. This is a year to lay low and focus, because the situation you’re in will require it for the duration of this year.
During my own 6 years, I have found myself saving a large portion of my salary each month to be able to fund my own master’s degree and then supporting my husband through the most recent 6 year, so he could leave work and do a year long woodwork course instead. I was tied to big financial obligations, but both for good causes.
The good news is that a 6 year also invites in more sweetness in simplicity. You will find yourself savouring the small things in your life more than ever and really enjoying the simple life. You will enjoy staying in and exploring your local area. Being in a coffee shop with a book will feel like heaven. You will have a lot of gratitude during this year, and so you won’t feel like you need much else.
Personal year 7
Oooft! This year is a wild ride (ask me how I’m feeling in 11 months because I’m in one now 😆) Personal year 7’s are a whirlwind of transformation and big changes. Think high highs and low lows. Things will fall apart and miracles will happen all within the space of a year.
It reminds me of the Wheel of Fortune in Tarot, which represents big swings and twists of fate. Things that are unaligned will fall away and it may feel like the rug is being pulled out from under you – but it’s only because the Universe is telling you it just won’t do; there is something better on the way instead.
Other sites will tell you that the 7 year is all about spirituality, but I see the 7 year as a portal of massive rebirth. You will birth through big manifestations and a new phase of life. Don’t be surprised if what you’ve been dreaming of comes true in your 7 year.
My previous 7 year was the epitome of this. I had a place on a master’s degree and was poised to hand in my notice and leave investment banking for good. I planned to move into fashion for a more creative career after I finished the degree, so I was excited about it all. However, at the last minute, the university emailed out of the blue to say the course had been cancelled; I barely had time to apply for another course and it was one of those crying in the toilets moments.
However, I managed to slide into another university and got a £5000 scholarship with them; it was also the same university I ended up being employed at years later. I didn’t realise that I was being moved onto another option that was much better for me in every way. I left my office job in the September as planned and felt like I was living in a dream for the next year. I loved my master’s and it was one of the best years of my life.
Everything that happens during a 7 year is for your highest good!
Personal year 8
Are you ready to make money and some big moves? This is the year for you!
You can expect things like a promotion or elevation in your business, where you get to the point of hiring staff and speaking on bigger stages. You’re being known and recognised because of everything you’ve created throughout the majority of this 9 year cycle.
You may also be making bigger financial commitments, such as investing in property, moving abroad, or putting sizeable sums into your business or the stock market. During my last 8 year, I started a whole new career as a fashion merchandiser and bought my first house – I also started sitting next to my new boss who introduced me to personal development books.
I had my big spiritual awakening through discovering The Secret and learning about manifesting for the first time. I also discovered energy healing by moving a block in my own solar plexus and manifesting £50 through a surprise phone call the next day that invited me to a paid focus group. I had uncovered new ways to make money.
You can expect to learn more about money, and earn more through new and exciting means. This year is all about abundance and reaching a new pinnacle of your career. If you’re retired or not working, you may discover a new money making modality that doesn’t involve work or make a big profit from selling a property. You may start renting a property out or receive a big dividend from stocks you’ve held.
The possibilities are endless!
Personal year 9
You’re at the end of your 9 year cycle, so you will start to feel things coming to a close.
It may be the end of your single life, the end of your life without children, or the end of your life in a certain career. You will start feeling pulled in a new direction towards a whole new cycle. This is about timely endings before a bright new beginning.
On my own journey, I got engaged and left the corporate world for the last time. I had started playing with entrepreneurship but hadn’t landed on my ultimate business idea yet – this one you see here was born in the following 1 year. A whole phase of my life was wrapping up and completing, in a smooth and aligned, easy way.
You will have matured through this cycle and will feel your desire for something starting to wane – something that you used to desire deeply and worked towards through this whole cycle. It is complete, and when something is complete, the desire for it goes.
It’s time to say goodbye and sail into your future. Something new awaits! Your next phase is nearly ready for you and it’s something you’ll be called to.
